I recently bought a used VX-5RS, and I am having problems reaching a local repeater. I know that the radio is transmitting. I am not sure about the antenna that is on it. It shows in the manual the two top pieces and I only have one I am not sure if I have the right one that I need to transmit on 2 meters.

When you are troubleshooting, like this, you must assume NOTHING and check EVERYTHING.

The factory antenn has two possible pieces.  A short piece, about 1 inch long, is used on 2m and 440 mhz.

A longer piece, about 3 inches long, loads the antenna for 6 m.

I doubt that the short piece would make much difference on 2 or 440

First, does the local repeater use carrier squelch, or "pl tone"  (CTCSS)?  If so, are you sure you have the "tone" set correctly?

I would get this thing to a competent "friend" who can check

Power output into a dummy load

Make sure the radio is transmitting "on frequency."

Make sure that the "PL" tone (CTCSS) is "on frequency" and within deviation limits.

See if a friend, with a similar power HT, can "get into" the troubled repeater at the same location you are trying to use.

I have no idea what type of locale you live in, you might even try to befriend a ham that may work at the local "two way" shop.
