I'm having trouble with my FT-101B. About three weeks ago I warmed
up the tubes and started the tuning up on 40 meters. When I finished my
tune up I hopped up a couple of KHz to check into a net. Then, when I
was about to check in the audio started getting distorted and a
whistling noise came in the back round. I get the whistling noise even when I'm
not receiving a signal. I then asked around and one of the local hams
said to clean the switch. So, I got in there with some dry q-tips(oh how
I wish I had asked how I was supposed to clean the switch, instead of
hopping right into the job). I took the switch apart and wiped
everything down. Then, two of the contacts fell out and I spent hours trying to
get everything back together. When my dad found out I used q-tips he
sprayed electronics cleaner in there. Finally it
went together and and I booted the rig up. Now I can't transmit when I'm
on mox, and I still have the LSB problem. One more thing, before I
cleaned the switch USB, AM, and CW recieved fine. I wonder why?
Anyway what do you recommend doing? Should I try fixing it myself,
or should I take it to an electronics technician, or should I trash it
and get another? And, by the way, I definitely plan to ask how I should
do it next time, hehe.
73 and thanks for looking,
