Can anyone tell me how to engage a constant tuning carrier on the ICOM 756 PRO II so that I can tune up my amplifier ? currently when i use the " tune " button and / or the " transmit " button the radio will put out a carrier until the antenna tuner matches the antenna then stops transmitting a carrier amd only the relay stays keyed.

Use CW and key the rig.

The TUNE button isused to adjust the built-in antenna matcher, not for tuning up an amp.

I have an Icom IC-706mkiiG which puts out 100 watts
RF except when the "tune" button is pressed, when it
puts out only 10 watts.  I believe that there are
small boxes you can put on the Icom molex connector
on the rear panel to fool them into thinking that
they have an antenna tuner attached.  These boxes
will allow you to tune up your linear with QRP input
levels (I think that's what you wanted) until the
linear is dipped.  Then you can go RTTY and a foot
switch, or "DAH" with your key and finish tuning
the linear for maximum output.

The aformentioned boxes I see advertised from time
to time in the ARRL QST magazine.

Hope this helps.
