Author Topic: Operating at band edges...  (Read 345 times)

I just saw an announcement on the DX cluster from W2IRT saying:

"Hope all those General-Class ops realize they can't call
 the BS7 below 14228! OO's are a-watchin them!"

I thought if I was using USB, my carrier was at say 14.225 and the "signal" is spread 2.8khz above it. If
my carrier is at 14.350 in USB, then I would be out of band. Same story using LSB on 7175, I'd need to be at
7178 to stay safe.

 Do I have this right?

  Thanks,

Yes you are right.  The other fellow got mixed up is all.  Happens to all of us now and then.

However, even though you could operate at 14.225 if your radio were perfect, it would be wisest to operate slightly above that.

What's up with the call signs?  Did you let your license lapse and have to start over?

I signed up here many years ago as a Tech. Lost interest/moved/girlfriends etc. After I moved to Vermont, I thought it would be nice to have a 1 call. I don't know if I can change it here......

There is a way to change your eham ID/sign in but since I've never changed call signs, I don't know the details.

If you get heavy into contesting, you might want to get a shorter call via the vanity system.  For example, N1PEU looks like it is available.

I've thought about that for contests, but I'm more into working DX right now and it seems too me that the longer I'm calling, he might catch the last two. Also I change the phoenics to something like Ocean Portugal Denmark, and its worked very well.

I need to set up a new account here to use my kb1 as a usename I see....
