I saw where MFJ has a frequency counter advertised for $119.95,1 mhz. to 3 ghz..It seems like a great price compared to some of the more expensive Optoelectronics brands.Has anyone used one of these?.How sensitive is it at picking up frequencies?.I also would probably use it more for seeking out freq. for scanner use also. Thanks for any replies.

I'm "bumping" this topic because I am interested in the MFJ-886 as well...  Or the MFJ-888.  Any opinions?

For what it is worth, I have owned one of these for about 8 years, give or take. It has always worked well and never had any problems. MFJ however, cannot provide anything additional that is not in the user manual.

Mine has never been calibrated and I assume it is still reasonably accurate. I contacted MFJ to see if they could tell me what the reference oscillator frequency is but like I said, they don't know anything. Knowing this tidbit would enable me to spot that on my HF receiver to see if the RO is close to being on freq.

I will probably get with another ham who has a station monitor or other calibrated signal source.
