I bought a used ICOM 746 PRO last month from a ham who said he bought it new in April of 2006.  He also said it had a high serial number.  So far the radio performs great but it looked dusty (ok maybe he did not use dust covers) He said it was a back up rig and had only a few hours.  The serial number on the radio is 02936.

Would anyone who bought a IC-746 PRO NEW please look at your serial number and let me know when you bought it new.

It wouldn't have been new in 2006.  Icom went from 6-digit S/Ns to 7-digit S/Ns before that.

Here in the history log:

IC746PRO S/N 012131 was purchased May 2003.
IC746PRO S/N 0205209 was purchased October 2006.

Best thing to do is call Icom.  They use S/Ns to track whether rigs are in warranty or not and should know when all the rigs are built.

Of course it's possible for a rig to be built in 2003 and sold in 2006, I suppose, if it sat in somebody's inventory for a long time.

The time to be checking that type of thing is before you purchase the radio. I doubt that he is going to refund your money at this point.

I bought a 746 Pro from AES about two months before Steve bought his. The serial number was 5 digits long, and the first one was a Ø. It was Ø17XX (don't remember the last two). My current one I purchased late last year, is 7 digits long: Ø28XXX. Icom has apparently been busy.

Are you questioning the sellers honesty in saying he bought this new in 06 or is there even really a problem with the radio?

If there is no problem with the radio are yousimply upset because you think you were lied to?
