Has anyone seen the new Yaesu VX-8 and do you have any opinions on it? It should be available in late August according to Universal radio. I can't wait to get one. 2m,6,220,440. Bluetooth capabilties. GPS. Ability to listen to amateur bands while listening to FM broadcasts. Any thoughts?

If it's not available yet, how can anyone have an _objective_ opinion on it? 73, Lon - W3LK Naugatuck, Connecticut

A smoking section in a restaurant makes as much sense as a peeing section in a swimming pool.

Just an opinion on the features its offering. I think anyone can do that. Some may feel its great because it can do whatever, or they should have included something other than one of the features. Obviously we don't know how well the radio performs in any of the modes. I was just trying to make some small talk since I personally have an interest in the radio. Sorry.

It is however available in Japan. And there is a conceptual manual for it on the FCC website. If you choose, you may join: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VX8R/Do message search for "MANUAL" and you can get an idea of some of the features and functionality. 73 Craig

Oh, and I am espcially interested in the GPS option.
And BTW, it should be at your favorite dealer late August or early September. FCC approvial as been granted.

Any thoughts?
It won't be as good as the VX-9.

go and "get" me a beer. Sorry for the oversight. You'd think I had too many beers already.

Happen to notice that it uses the same Bluetooth acc as the FTM-10R? I look for the current Bluetooth accessories to be discontinued and a single Bluetooth package offered if sales are good.
Also it uses the EDC-5B adaptor which has been around for what seems like ages.

The EDC-5B. Is that the drop in charger? Or the standard charger you plug in?
