Imagine, if you will, that one day President-elect Barack Obama decides to get an amateur radio license.

What would be the pros? What would be the cons?

He would get rid of all licensing since the air waves ought to be equally distributed to everyone.

Wrong! There would be only one call sign ID and everyone would have to share it.

Those making over $250,000 a year would be forced to buy rigs for the rest of us :-)

The ARRL would receive a bail-out and the staff would go on a DXpedition :-)

Pro
he would be one of many elected officials
in the US that hold an amateur license
as well as leaders of other countries.

would be great to bust a pileup on air force one !

Con

his schedule will leave him little time
to operate.

He would eliminate the FCC, and "talk" to CBers and Freebanders who used illegal power and roger beeps!  Then he would tell his wife to get a CB unit and go on the air, taking the place of Betty Ford as "First Mama"!

The pros might be that if he tells the FCC to jump when it comes to ham radio-related issues, they will ask him, "How high?"  As far as the cons go, probably a lot of old farts and disgruntled hams telling him how to run the country when he gets on the radio.  Unfortunately, Barry Goldwater, K7UGA, lost to LBJ in 1964, so we may never know what it would be like to have an active ham operator in the White House.  I do understand that Betty Ford was a big CB'er when she was first lady though, if this does anything for you.

From what I understand, the situation with Navassa is more complicated than Desecheo was... something political with several surrounding nations.

It doesn't matter to me whether The Messiah becomes a ham or not. I can live without amateur radio.

What scares me is what He, Biden, Pelosi and the other left-wing loons are going to try to do to the Second Amendment. I don't trust the man (or any other of his menagerie) any further than I can throw him (or them).

A smoking section in a restaurant makes as much sense as a peeing section in a swimming pool.

He would probably make the Super Bowl (cb channel 6) the national calling frequency.
