Two weeks ago I ordered a microphone from MFJ and was told it was back ordered, with a 2-4 week delivery. I wrote to cancel, saying I might reorder when it was back in stock, and got a reply saying oh, we rushed it through, and we can ship it tomorrow. I replied that I'd take it.

Yesterday I ordered a pair of the bias tee adapters, after figuring out it would cost me almost as much to order the parts to build it from various suppliers, and today, I again get the back order message.

I'm starting to wonder if perhaps a lot of their products are simply built to order instead of keeping a lot of stock on hand. Has anyone else had this experience?

Built to order?  I really doubt that.

MFJ's a big operation and if they "built to order," the overhead hit would be huge.

My guess is that their MRP/inventory data base sucks and at first glance they don't know exactly what they have.  Then, somebody goes to manually check and finds out the product you want is already in process and about to roll off the line, resulting in the follow up message.

I guess that only because I've been involved in manufacturing for many years and this is a pretty common problem!

I never order MFJ products from "the factory" because the distributors have more stuff, and usually charge about 10% less for it.

I've had good luck with ordering from MFJ.

The shipping has been fast.  One item was backordered and arrived in about two weeks.

I like ordering from them because third party vendors usually do not stock their entire line of stuff.  In my case, it was a cable pass through.

Best wishes,

Gary

I've never ordered from MFJ but have purchased a few of their products. I'm sorry to say that I was not impressed with their quality control. My dummy load had a poor solder connection at the the antenna connector, which broke off. Fortunately it not cause any damage to my equipment and was easily repairable. My MFJ antenna tuner had similar issues. Both were purchased new from HRO. I will probably not buy any more of their products.
