Hi All
Ok here we go can anyone give me info on why the Alinco DX-180 HF Tranciever is not really suitable for ham radio?
All I know is that it is sold as a commercial radio covering full tx/rx on HF,sounds good to me!
Any info would be much appreciated.
                        Thanks.

The DX-180 is a 5w VHF HT, not an HF radio, that's why. Smiley

A smoking section in a restaurant makes as much sense as a peeing section in a swimming pool.

I think you will find that this radio is really not suitable for use on the ham bands for several reasons.

Check the following for specs and a brochure:
http://radioarena.co.uk/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=948

First off, the info tells you NOT to use it in VFO mode for extended periods, which leaves you only channalized operation.

Modes of operation are limited.

power levels are either 100 or 10 watts.

No options for selectivity (filters)

No real RF gain, just a glorified attenuator.

Other reasons you will find if you download/read the brochure.

Money would be better spent on a real ham band rig, new or used.
