seeing as most of the radios nowadays are black. if given a choice for external colour preference which would you chose and why?
black
grey
silver
tan
wood grain look
any other colours considered.
i think it would be nice for the company to offer a basic black or silver /grey outer cover colour, and a minimal charge for blue, green or why/

I have always liked black or dark grey equipment. There are a lot of things that people want in radio equipment, but I would rather have the manufactures worry about making the product better than the wrapper more expensive.

I painted the top cover to my mobile IC-706MkIIg light gray so that it doesn't get so hot in the sunlight.

I, too, prefer black or dark gray.

I, too, agree that there are more important things to be concerned with than case color. Multiple color options would be a solution in search of a non-existent problem.

I couldn't care less.

Yaesu made some light beige (almost white) colored stuff for a while, it looked okay.

Ten Tec used to have cream colored panels with woodgrain-looking end panels (really contact paper attached to molded plastic pieces) which seemed silly but it looked okay.

My first 2 meter rig was an AM Gonset made for Civil Defense and painted bright yellow.  Now, that did look silly.

Black and gray tones seem to be most acceptable.

I always go for black - it makes all the pretty little lights, dials and meters look nice at night.

I also prefer black or dark gray, but I still hold a warm spot in my heart for Heathkit's Greenish-Gray.

Ah, those were the days.

Cheapest color that is durable.  As with other comments, I would rather pay $30 more for $30 worth of component upgrades than for fancy cases.

(Though I would pay more for more button controls and less menu controls.)

i agree with black and grey also, although i would like the hammered finish over glossy or slight orange peel look. it hides the imperfections and hides scrathches better.as far as 30$ or so for cosmetic vs internal?... each to there own. just like cars or home options i guess, etc, etc.

There are three options really missing here:

1.  Rebel Flag - note:  Only available to addresses south of the Mason-Dixon Line.

2.  Stars and Stripes - note:  Damnyankeees only.

3.  Chrome:  For the straight-pipes save lives crowd.

My three favorite colors for ham rigs are:

1. Black
2. Black
3. Black

Some of the hideous colors of the past -- beige and green -- are gone and I hope forgotten.

I strongly prefer black/dark grey but I have to say that Hilberling rig with the blue anodized finish looked pretty cool.

I don't care what the radio looks like if it consistently receives out of the noise floor and busts pileups.

Its RADIO.

The other party can't see it.
