FT1000MP MKV Field RX Ant

Has anyone connected a RX antenna to the FT1000MP MKV Field .How did you connect it and what type of antenna did you use ?There is very little in the manual as to what to connect to the radio for RX only antenna.There is an input and output connection on the back of the rig.I connected a longwire run around my yard secured to the wooden fence 6ft off the ground, to the RX input with good results but would like to hear more thoughts on this.
