Hello,

I have a Icom IC 706 MKII in my Landrover since a few years. In the moment I´am learning morse code and at the end I will have a full (class 1) licence.

So I´am looking for putting a HF aerial on my Landrover. As you can see at: http://lr-109.de/my_109/pic1999.html  I´ve some genuine british army aerials fitted. So I think I can use this 9 Feet long aerials on the fron wings.

I can fit a smaller Autotuner in one of the boxes that are below the whip http://www.qsl.net/dg5dbv/mylr3.htm
So I can use one aerial for the higher band (20m to 10m) and fit a kind of coil in the other box to use the other aerial on the lower bands (80m, 40m, 30m) because 9 feet is much to short for the auto tuners  for this bands without extra help.

I can use a relay after the auto tuner to change the antennas.

The AH-4 or the SGC 231 will fit into this Boxes. I found the RT-11 from ldg-electronics and it is much cheaper than the others.

Any experiance with a Setup like this. Any Tips for the Coil an the lowband antenna ?

bye

I have just installed an 11M - 102 inch whip for HF operation. I have the Alinco DX70 and EDX2 autotuner. It tunes all bands. The main issues was getting a good counterpoise for the tuner. Check my site for pictures http://jringersoll.tripod.com

Have fun........ John

hello,

John thanks for the Info,

In the meantime I upgraded my licence to full HF and bought a Icom AH-4 tuner.

I fitted it in my "wingbox" and ist works from 40m to 6m.
But I also like 80m but the tuner finds no match with the 2.70m long whip.

So I must make a coil to lengthen the whip electricly.

any Idears ?

bye
