I want to go mobile with my 2000 Toyota Tacoma and am looking at using a tri-mag mount system on the roof.  I will attach spring mounted ham-stick type antennas to the mount via a quick disconnect system, and will use my LDG tuner in the cab.

What is the best made tri-mag mount system out there? Will I have any grounding issues using a thin sheet of plastic between the magnets and the roof?  I want something that can also take some off-roading abuse and not rust.  Also looking for something using Mini-8 or 8X coax rather than typical RG-58 type coax.

OR, should I say to heck with it and go with a Tarheel antenna :-)

thanks in advance,

You don't state what type (band?) antennas you'll be using (unless I should know about hamsticks).  I don't really like mag mount antennas for frequent use, especially tall/low freq antennas.  You need to have the mag directly on the painted body, as a barrier will affect the ground plane and SWR.  Frequent removing and replacing a mag base will affect the vehicle's paint.  With an external antenna, you need to feed the antenna cable in to the vehicle somehow.  Squishing the co-ax in the door seal or keeping a window cracked open isn't for me.  I'd recommend looking into a semi-permanent antenna mount.
