I wrote a short piece about making a modification of my Hustler antenna so it would bend out of the way when the front of my 5th wheel travel trailer passed over the tool box in the bed of my pickup truck. Since I wrote that (it appeared here and in World Radio Mag for December '03), I have found a problem. It seems that just the short piece of antenna rod between the spring and the mount is too much for the short rod. It has broken off just at the mount from motion to the side and not from the front. I am replacing the aluminum rod material with steel threaded rod. The 3/8X24 threaded rod is available from Do It Best hardware online (www.doitbest.com) and is listed as: SKU751573, Model 20304 3/8X24X36"  $3.09 plus S&H. I hope that helps anyone else thinking about doing that mod for their mobiling.
