Tarheel Model 100 on Crown Victoria

Has anybody mounted a Tarheel Model 100 or the like on a Crown Vic?  I would like ideas/pics of how you did it if so.  I have a pretty hefty mount for a hustlers set-up now that would support the bottom, but I'm lookin for ideas on how to add an upper support.  I have a few ideas of my own, but would appreciate anyone's experiences that have "been there done that."

That's always the problem with screwdriver antennas; they have to be frame or trailer hitch mounted because no one makes a decent ballmount anymore. That and you have to worry about power too.

You might check HiQ's site for some ideas. There are lots of pictures of various installations on all sorts of vehicles.

The lower mount to support the weight isn't a problem, what I have now will hold my body weight on it w/o a problem, I just need to come up with a scheme to provide the upper support for it.  Power is not a problem either.  I'll check out HiQ's site.

The ballmount that James recommends is made of two stamped SS semi-hemispherical pieces. In between these halves is ferrule which the cross bolt goes through. It is designed for light mobile antennas like those used for CB. When used with heavy antennas like a Tarheel or HiQ, it is necessary to tighten the center bolt beyond what the split ferrule will withstand. Sooner or later (usually sooner) the ferrule bulges thus loosening the ball and your antenna finds itself laying on the ground!

No one, and I mean no one, makes a decent ballmount any more. GE is long since gone, but if you can find one of their old Master mounts, you're in luck as it will hold just about any antenna you can screw into it.

Well I got it mounted by modifing my old mount for the Hustler....Now I have a problem of RF tripping the ABS on 40m.  My first step will be to try and ground it better.  Currently I have a battery cable going from the ground on the mount (where the inductor coil terminates to ground) to the frame that is about 2ft long, Im going to replace this with a ground braid that is as short as possible and hope this helps. Any other sugestions are appreciated as well.
