FT-8800R & YSK8900 Problem

Hello all, I am in the process of installing a FT8800R radio in my Saturn. I also purchased the YSK8900 kit for it.

Unfortunately when I plug the long data cable into the radio and into the face plate, all I get is a "crack" sound about once every second. The display will not light up either. When I plug in the short data cable that came with the radio, the radio works fine and there is no cracking sound.

The only thing I noticed is that the wire colors on the original data cable are in a different order than the ones on the extension data cable.

Anyone else have a problem like this?

It sounds like you're using a Ethernet data cable. It that correct? If it is, it won't work.

The ony cables that came with the YSK8900 kit are for the speaker (pointed ends) and the face plate extension(flat ends). I misspoke when I said data cable.

I got the same problem when I used a standard 6 conductor telephone cord. Once I discovered it wasn't wired the same on both ends (2 wires were crossed), I cut off and rewired one end so that it was just like the other end. It worked fine then. If you search the messages on the FT-8800R group, you will find allot of info about the seperation cable. I didn't buy the kit, but I made mine myself for less than $20. It took about 1 1/2 hrs. to do!
