Just passed my test yesterday (basic, Canada) and I am ordering a 2m radio and an antenna.
The dealer has a Larsen magmount 150 MMR which he claims is very good quality.
Is this true ?
And yes, I know all about mag mounts coming off in accidents.
Thanks.

Larsen is one of the best antenna manufacturers around. Just forget the mag mount, for all the reasons you already know about. Smiley

I have been using Larsen (now a part of Radiall) magnetic mount antennas for several decades and never had any problems with them, other than the usual loss of magnetism after a few years. They will hold to a flat metal surface at speeds well beyond the manufacturer's published 80 MPH specification.

While the best mount is one drilled through the center of the vehicle roof, the mag mounts from Larsen/Radiall will do the least amount of damage to the painted surface and still provide very good signals.
