In some cases, the amount of dash space the SRS takes depends on where in the dash it's mounted. In most smaller cars, the bag pops out of the top of the dash. On larger ones, from the front. Some, like the Hyundai are mounted behind, and the dash splits apart.
Side bags pop out from the A pillar, from the top of the door frame, or up from the shoulder of the door. At least one model has the pop out of the side of the seat.
It should be obvious that mounting a mobile radio in a modern vehicle does take some understanding of what location circumvents collision from the various SRS devices. Unfortunately, the peril is often ignored.
