I'm with Steve on this.

Besides, all the advertising hype aside, those fiberglas CB whips are pretty lousy performers, especially the 4' ones. A base-loaded Larsen will run rings around it. One of the best mobile CB antennas was the old Antenna Specialists, but I am not sure they are made any more - and they didn't use an NMO mount.

Forget the fiberglas whip, OR mount it separately on an L-bracket on the hood/fender joint.

I used the Larsen base-loaded whip roof-mounted on a Motorola NMO mount for many years.  It is a very felxible and rugged whip ( and the Larsen and Antennex NMO mounts are equally reliable).

Consider ditching the fiberglass CB antenna.  The Lasren will not only hold up better, but look better on your car as well.

I have the 10 meter Larsen antenna on top of my '07 Tahoe, and can verify that it does not need reinforcing.

there are several vhf/uhf antennas from the major makers using the 3/8-24 thread this can range from 1/4 wave to 5/8 of duel band antennas and for my dollar the 3/8-24 is the best deal               pat n3idg
