I'm looking for skins like you would see on iphones or ipods for radios that would protect the radio from shock when dropped etc. as an added protective feature to apply to a radio. I see no reason why there aren't any manufacturers that haven't created anything like this unless there is some thing I don't know about where a skin or cover would severely hamper the efficiency and operating capabilities of a handheld ham radio I'm completely at a loss of where to find something like this, I've Googled to my hearts content and have found nothing. I just ordered a Yaesu FT-270R just yesterday, and will pay for one to be custom made if there is anyone out there that does it just post a price and I'll let you know if it's within my budget (i'm a cash strapped college student who lives with my parents sooo Tongue)

There are companies making both leather and nylon holsters for all manner of handhelds. Some indeed come with them. Perhaps you're not using the correct search phrase.

Maybe try contacting Zagg.  It seems their product might be readily configured for the low volume ham market.

It would seem that to them, an HT is just another cell phone housing.

I use their shields on the displays of all my electronics but haven't gone so far as to inquire about a custom housing protector.
