ICOM746 PRO Display light

When I turned on my rig this AM the light in the display did not work.  All the other information is there but unlighted.  Is this a fix that can be done by a ham with moderate skills or does it need to go back to ICOM.  Of course the warranty period has passed!  I really like the rig and this is the first problem I have had.

feeling is that you have invested a lot in this fine rig, unless you are experienced in this type of repair, contact a service center.

Don,
I read the information and you are 100% right!  There is no way I could do the "fix".  I have been very happy with the rig and while it is still useable it is very frustrating to not be able to easily read the display.  I am going to call Icom tomorrow and some one else suggested Burghardt.  I have not had much experience with service but a 2-meter rig I sent to Icom under warranty took a long time to get returned.

A friend of mine just had his fixed by Kuni at Comtek.Kuni stated to run the backlight at maximum as the dimmer settings causes the components to overheat.
