Hi, I've read a bit about design (Force 12) and wonder if a low cost antenna like the MP-1 (marketed by Elecraft) is on par with pricier antennas. Has someone considered "bang for the buck"? Mni tnx in advance! 72,

The MP-1 is more like "pop for the buck". Like any other physically small, heavily loaded antenna, it is inefficient and narrow band (except that you can adjust the loading coil when moving to a new part of the band) as compared to most full sized antennas. The MP-1's claim to fame is that it is small and easy to transport. When used in a decent location with a decent radial system, you can make contacts on it - especially on the higher bands (20M and up).
