I have been using the stock filter on SSB and have no complaints (40 countries worked in 2 months of SSB operation with the FT817 mostly on 20 meters). The CW filter however, is a MUST! It, along with the if-shift tuning, works very well to control QRM.

I have the InRad 2.3 SSB filter in mine. Works fine, little less pricy thatn Yaesus.

'Haven't used one but Expanded Spectrum Systems offer what is purported to be the same type of Rockwell-Collins mechanical filter for the FT-817 at a lower price than either the Yaesu or Inrad versions.

I've read that many people think the (any brand) SSB filter doesn't seem to make much difference using the internal speaker on the FT-817 but that it makes a difference when using a better fidelity outboard speaker.
