If you have concerns about not having a digital display on the 9420, I can heartily recommend installing a Freq-Mite from Small Wonder Labs. I have installed this tiny board into my 9420 and now I have instant accurate frequency readout(in morse code). In the process, I got to melt some solder, learn about the overall design of the 9420 and add a useful feature to radio.

If the folks who came before us in this hobby had worried as much about drift, frequency display, multiband capabilities etc., as we do today, we wouldn't be worrying about it at all.
