Hello,

Has anyone modified their MFJ 90xx qrp with an internal power source (gel cells)?  I'm looking for recommendations on the type of cells and any mods I need to make in order to support the internal power source.

A gel cell probably wouldn't be that practical, but you could probably fit a set of AA NiMH batteries in one of those rigs.  I had a 40M version of that rig and the power draw is rather modest, so powering it from a pack such as this is feasible.  I would add circuitry to allow the DC input jack to both power the rig and charge the battery at the same time, that way you don't have to remove the pack for recharging.
