Try this for a cheap rig.MFJ very kindly publish their manuals on the web.I have built a copy of the 20M version using discreet components.The Toko 10K 9449 is a direct substitute for all the variable inductors-a 10K 9445 should work for 40 and the 10K 9441 for 80.I used a separate Hartley FET VFO (as in the Emtech NW series) fed into pin 6 of U2.Stability is excellent.I get 2W out from a 2N3553 and can work the States with just a loft dipole.I have built a second /p version running off a Nimh battery.
