GNU Radio

I'm getting the itch to build a new PC, and make the full switch to Linux in the process. One big reason for the OS switch is the GNU Radio project. Can anyone comment on the software? Anyone using the Universal Software Radio Peripheral?

Keep in mind, I've run Linux before but got a little frustrated. I finally got rid of the last Windows application by switching to web banking (it works better anyway), so I'm not switching just because of GNU Radio.

I saw a demonstration of GNU radio about 18 months ago at a Linux conference. It's OK but the software is really designed for the world above 50 MHz. There were demonstrations of TV reception and a local talk radio station but not much else. I'm not even sure if it can resolve SSB.

You need to talk to a guy called Bdale Garbee (no, I haven't typed his first name incorrectly). He can tell you all about the project (and he's a ham).

Thanks. From what I've been able to gather, most of the focus has been on receiving high speed digital modes (HDTV, GMSK, and 802.11 spread spectrum). I think I'll go ahead and take the plunge after the first of the year (looking to build a new PC anyway, and not interested in Vista, so this is a good reason to switch to Linux anyway).
