i am leaning toward buying a used ft-1000 d
what should i look out for, is serial number, vintage, software, mods etc important?
any advise is appreciated

I believe that the latest eprom is v. 6.0

You can check through a startup sequence described in the manual.

If you can, get the FIF 232C computer control that you'll need with the rig for contesting, etc.

Also, the subreceiver filter is optional and has to be soldered in.  It would be cool to get one with that filter and the optional second 250hz filter already installed.

I have had two, one was built in 1993 and the other I bought new in 2000 and will never part with. I can tell no difference in performance. Congrats on getting one, they are the best radio built today. Marketing is the only thing that todays DSP radios have, when it comes to REAL performance the FT1000 is it.
