756 Pro II vs. Kenwood TS-2000

Wonder how many of you have tried both the Kenwood TS-2000 and the Icom 756 Pro II. I own the Pro II and am thinking of switching to the TS-2000. I like the Pro very much and am happy with it, but I think I'd like to try the Kenwood due to the inclusion of the 2 and 440 bands.

If there are any readers who have used both rigs, I'd like to hear about your experiences with the two rigs at k3vr@arrl.net

I have the fortune of owning a ts-2000x and IMHO its the best u can get for the buck considering the features and the vhf-uhf capabilties. Its a all around great multiband rig... And is very reliable...works great as a base and not all that large for portable field use....

You pretty much get what you pay for. Compare the prices of those rigs. That about says it all. The "2000" is more or less a "starter radio" for the newbie. That's why it has the 2-meter/432mhz in it...while also letting the newbie get aquainted with the world of HF. The 756 is geared for the more experienced operator.

I have both rigs, and I like both of them.  I prefer the ProII for serious DX work, and I like the TS-2000 for all around use.  Although the TS-2000 costs about $1000 less than the ProII, it works just as good for most SSB contacts.  The TS-2000 selectivity is not as good as the ProII.  I am able to tune out adjacent stations better on the ProII than with the TS-2000.  Furthermore, the ProII has an excellent scope, but the TS-2000 will work on 2M/440 and includes the satellite modes.  I guess it comes down to how you plan to use the rig.  If you are on HF most of the time, I would keep the ProII.  If you use HF, and 2M/70cm and you plan to use satellite, I would get the TS-2000.

I had the very same experience as N3OP - IMHO he is right on.
