Ten Tec Jupiter or ICOM 756PROII

I would appreciate any comments/experience regarding these two radios and which one you would prefer.

756PROII.

The Jupiter came and went through my shack about 18 months ago, having only a brief stay.  It's cute, it's small, it's light, and it looks like it would be easy to service -- and those are the advantages it has over the Icom.  The Icom's advantages are too numerous to list!

If you're really pinched for "space" in the shack and can't tolerate the real estate the 756PROII ties up, that might be justification for something smaller like the Jupiter.  But the PROII has:

-internal ATU, and a good one
-50 MHz coverage
-spectrum display (bandscope) that is more functional than the Jupiter's
-bigger knobs, more solid feel, doesn't get pushed around the desk when you punch buttons
-much prettier panel display
-better performing receiver in the pileups
-better TX audio (modulation)*

(*Note: The Jupiter might be better, now, with all the software improvements; however, it's "out of the box" modulation characteristics when it was a new model were not good, regardless of adjustments possible at the time.)

I wouldn't mind having the Jupiter back, as a field/portable rig.  I'd much rather carry it around than a 756PROII.  But for daily home station operation, the choice is very clear.

I would hope you're not comparing them against each other.  The Jupiter and the ProII are not in the same category either features or price wise.  The ProII is considerably more expensive and will outperform the Jupiter in most measurements and features.  It depends on what you have the budget to afford.  The Jupiter competes well with other rigs in its price class, however.
