VE7CQE, Charles "Chase" Parent-Quinn of British Columbia, Canada stole a Yaesu FT817 and $163.  Be aware that law enforcement personnel consider ham radio trades/purchases to be a "civil" matter and NOT CRIMINAL.  I have been contacted by others who have been defrauded by VE7CQE.

It would appear VE7QCE is a fake, according to industry canada, VE7QCE is a call sign that is still available (unassigned)

There is no listing in the on line directory for Parent-Quinn. He may only have a cell phone in that case he may not show up.

Perhaps if you had a phone number you could do a reverse lookup to find address and location.

Step 1 should be to verify someone's identity. If there is no listing for a person at the callsign they give you, why would you deal with them?

Steve.
If you can give me more information on this mutt, email me at home.  I'll quietly put the word out, and see what I can find out for you.  Any and all information will be helpful.
Do you have an address that the rig was sent to, and how was it sent.  I've found out from hams that I've bought or sold gear to, if you've had the US or Canadian Postal services involved, then this can become a Federal matter.
My home email is
gshortre@telus.net

73..es..best wishes.

VE3CQE is listed on both QRZ and the Industry Canada database.  A Google search on the call also yielded the following RAC link that has a phone number that was valid as of Nov 2003.

http://www.rac.ca/cdn_clubs/region_pacific.htm

Here is the relevent info from the link.

Canadian Volunteer Emergency Response Society - A.C.P. # 195
2061 Noel Ave
Comox, BC  V9M 1Z1
Meetings: 2nd Saturday / 19:30 local time
Meeting Location: 2061 Noel Avenue
Contact: Charles Parent-Quinn  VE7CQE  250-890-3427  E-mail
Source / Date: Charles Parent-Quinn (Chief) VE7CQE / 12 Nov 03

I hope that this helps.

The Call is VE7CQE.  I verified the call through RAC, verified his address and that he was active in local Ham Radio activities, visited with him by phone and checked to see if he was listed on any of the online "scam" lists.

Graham, (VE7ABC):  Thanks for your interest.  Charles (Chuck) Parent-Quinn, VE7CQE, was listed by RAC as living in Delta, BC.  The address is still listed on eham.  Make sure you tell all the local hams.  I think he will continue this criminal behavior unless he is stopped and the local Delta police are not interested unless a LOT of people start complining!
