Any advise for a prospective builder of a copper cactus (double j pole) antenna for 2m/70cm?

I just finished my first antenna (jpole) this weekend.  It started out as a 2/440.  I think I cut the coil too short and could not get my SWR below 2-1.  I abandoned the coil and made it a monoband and it hovers around 1.3-1.  These sites are pretty good reference.
