Does the ft-857 have a swr meter in the menu or on the main screen?

Yes, there's a button in one of the on-screen menus (not the menu mode) that cycles through showing Power Out, ALC Level and SWR on the little bargraph on the left side when you're transmitting.  It should show "PWR" or "SWR" or "ALC" ... but I don't remember which letter it's under.

It's not a very good SWR indicator but it will give you some indication.

I would add that if it is deflecting only 1 or 2 bars then your SWR is pretty good.   The FT-857D will foldback on RF power if the SWR is above 1.5 to protect the finals.

They changed that to about 2.25:1 in the newer models.

I don't know what that is in bars..
