I just purchased a DJ-V5 from a dealer.  I explictly asked the dealer if it could be programmed via computer and he said yes though he didn't have the cable in-stock.

I have been searching and searching on the Internet to locate the DJ-V5 programming software without luck.  I am about ready to return the radio.

Does anyone use a DJ-V5 with a computer?  If yes, where can I purchase / find the software?

Since there's no mention of external programming and no software as an optional accessory in the manual, I suspect it's not something Alinco offers. In fact, Alinco doesn't mention software of any kind until you get to the driver download portion of their website. But I don't see the software itself mentioned. The few sellers who list Alinco handheld software and list the radios it can be used with do not list the V series. There is a clone cable, and that may have misled a vendor to assume there was readily available software. Of course, if it can clone, there's obviously a way to program, and someone might have written a utility. If you search for SW-596, the part number for Alinco handheld software, one of the vendors offering it can probably tell you for sure. But I've never seen a manufacturer who offered a programmable radio and software to fail to mention that fact anywhere in their literature.

If you search ALINCO SOFTWARE on eBay, you'll find a listing for a utility for other Alinco handhelds. He says he has demonstrated the software in the Alinco booth at Dayton. That suggests to me that he writes the utilities. I'm sure he would answer any questions if the other vendors can't. You have to register with eBay to get a message to him. If you're not an eBay user and there's a problem with you registering, let me know, and I'll ask him about it. Email through ARRL.

Hello,

there is indeed programming software for the Alinco DJV5.

It is by RT systems. BUT, it is no longer available.
http://www.rtsystemsinc.com/alinco_template.cfm

I searched as I went, the bottom has more relevant data for you.

A lot of 3rd party programming software and data appears to have vanished.

I only have the trial version, it worked/works fine for 30 days.

I made my own interface for it also, but I can not find the circuit or source any more??

There is an USB programming cable for it,

Here are a couple of pages that might interest you.

A possible interface circuit plus programming data for the DJV5.

And the Alinco site for a PDF service manual,
http://www.alinco.com/pdf.files/

Some nice Russians have what looks like a DOS version programmer for the DJV5.
It is called, djall.exe
http://hamradio.online.ru/ftp/djall.exe

I gave it a whirl, the exe expands into a folder with 3 files in it.

Before it would run, I had to right click the djall.exe and change its compatability mode to win95.
A little shortcut for it then appeared.
It ran OK, and looks similar to what RT once had, maybe there was some disagreement between the two.

There is also a DJV5 users group on Yahoo Groups.

Cheers, Kevin.
