Sorry - I've cross posted this in home-brew too as I'm not sure which is correct section....
I've searched in vain for any details on this to no avail. Has anybody made their own cable for this - I've tried a simple straight through wire cable and can't get it to work - presumably something extra is needed.
I assumed the outer (of earpiece plug) would be ground and tried the middle and tip both ways on the 2 and 3 pins for the 9 pin D.
Would running from mains adaptor (6v or so - they say up to 16 is ok so I'm betting it gets dropped anyway) rather that NiMH at 3.6v make any difference ?
Only cables I've seen are mail order and cost > £35 which seems to be a rip-off to me - that's 25% of radio !!!

No,
We are really trying to get the software (freeware from Alinco) to hook up to the radio. The manual says nothing, I agree, however, the Alinco web site does say that their freeware makes this radio easier to program and it is done through the sterio earphone jack. The other end of the cable is a 9-pin, but that is as far as I can get.

I just read though the manual for that radio and find nothing about connecting to a PC. The info for cloning is there. Is that what you are trying ot do? If so, can you not go from the PC sound card output to the earphone plug on the radio to input the frequencies you want to use?. It doesn't look like a compatible DB9 circuit is called for to do that. I could be wrong, I am just making a suggestion based on what I saw in the manual. 73 Frank KL7IPV
