New hams, and those still studying for their license, can sometimes benefit from knowing how to use a scientific calculator. Granted, a few of you will have TI-84 Plus or similar $100+ calculators already, but there is a shirt-pocket size non-graphing substitute currently being sold at Dollar Tree stores, where everything cost only a dollar.

It is a ten-digit scientific calculator with the typical trig and log functions, exponents, factorials, statistics, binary-octal-decimal-hexadecimal calculations and conversions, floating point to engineering notation, etc. But the nice feature (other than the price) is its ability to convert rectangular to polar notation and vice versa, and deal with complex and imaginary numbers.

They may be going fast now that back-to-school shopping season is here. If you're interested, look for UPC number 6-3927720246-8. GL.
