That's why I operate 100% VOX...been doing so since the mid-60's.  But, when I operated AM in the early 60's someone timed one of my transmissions as being over an hour long.

Been there, done that myself. I think we all did in those AM days in the cold winter evening 75 meter round tables. It was the accepted way back then.

Thank heavens for SSB and VOX operation showing us the way! But if the truth be known, I still have been accused of an extended transmission at times.

Old habits are hard to break.........John

But then there are the ahhh people, who ahhhh, keep, their, ahhh, vox from dropping.  Defeats the purpose.  Drives me crazy.  Wink

Actually, since I'm a ragchewer and not a contestor, I prefer that to contest behavior like "here's your signal report, now go away".  But whatever your preferences, in ham radio, you never have to worry about someone thinking you were rude and hung up on him.  Hey, the band went south!  It's not ham's that are rude, it's that goddamm sun!
