I've read all of the posts/reviews for the VX-Commander software including the latest post on e-Ham that gives detailed instructions on how to make it work. However, in the absence of a thorough troubleshooting guide on the Commander website, I want to ask a question about an issue I'm having.

I've purchased the "Kawamall" cable that KD8JYM mentioned in his post. I tested the cable using the Interface Cable Loopback Tester program that KC8UNJ recommends. The cable passed the test. I configured the port in VX-Commander and in following the pop-up instructions, I was successful in downloading my VX-7R's data to the Commander software. However, after I make changes to the database...like adding new tags or frequencies... as soon as I try to upload the changes back to the VX-7R following the pop-up instructions, the software says the data upload was successful, but the 7R comes back with a "Clone Error" after a few seconds and the microprocessor is completely reset.

I went through all of the troubleshooting tips within the Commander software - such as increasing the data transfer time - but it doesn't seem to be working. The transfer speed is still 8 seconds even though the troubleshooting guide says it should take anywhere from 30-45 seconds. I've been through this 4 times where I've had to completely reprogram the radio by hand and owners of this radio know what a pain that is.

Has anyone experienced this same problem and can give me some advice on how to solve it? Thanks very much for  taking the time to respond.

Best 73s!

Hi:
Check your battery voltage.
I use the VX7R with the  commander software.
I find, the radio will download to the computer with a low battery state but will not upload to the radio with same voltage.  Takes a fresh charge on my end for it to work.
Your mileage may vary of course.
I can not speak of the cable you mentioned.  Mine is a factory cable.
Best regards and good luck
