Hi Wes,

As far as I know, your rig needs to be in the USB mode to operate PSK. I have been using PSK31, PSK63, MFSK16, Olivia and a bit of RTTY over the years and have always used USB.
My rig is a Kenwood TS-870S (purchased new in 1999) and is the only xcvr I've ever used for digital modes. Been doing mostly digital stuff since 2002.
Best of luck with PSK31....it's neat mode and doesn't require a super "whiz bang" setup.
Best Christmas/New Year/Holiday wishes to you and your and hope to CU on the waterfall soon.

The FSK mode would be used with old-fashioned RTTY and associated Terminal Units. All the new sound-card based modes use the appropriate SSB mode for the band - LSB on 40 and down, USB on 30 and up. I haven't tried using the 'opposite' sideband mode - see what happens when you try to copy signals...

Of course, I don't know about all software, but Ham Radio Deluxe assumes you are on USB on all bands. If you switch to LSB and are using a mode that is sensitive to which sideband it's on, there is an invert button to flip the output to make it so everyone is working their digital from the same direction.

We are Coulomb of Borg. Resistance is futile. Voltage, on the other hand, has potential.
