Sound card problems

  Hi all. In the past I've had CW Get and W1SQL for Cw and psk 31 receive only and things were humming along just fine and one day nothing.It was just like the sound card wasn't hearing anything.I checked the cable and it was fine.So I figure onboard sound card went bad. So i picked up a Comp USA 16bit full duplex codec,32 bit pci bus interface,4 channel sound card, 20 $ ( I say that like I know what it means ).Now it says if I have on-board sound i'll need to disable it.My first question, how does one do that? The motherboard is a Biostar M7VKS.My second question which should of been my first is did I jump the gun in assumeing the sound card is bad? I've made up my mind the Rigblaster is coming in but I want to make sure the computor is up to snuff before I order one.Thank you for any help you can give me.

hi john,

Have you added or removed any software before the problem started ?

You could try to reinstall the drivers for the onboard soundcard.

To disable the original soundcard you may need to do this from the bios setup utility.

 Hey James thanks for stoping by. I think I got the sound card going last night at least I can hear psk signals threw my speakers again. But I'm not getting any signals on the display. And yes I did deleate some software before the problem started. So now I'm wondering what I threw away.

Hi John .. I have an onboard REALTEC card in this computer that always worked fine on the digital modes.. Then one day while having a psk qso I was told I was off freq just a bit. I could not see it but the guy I was talking to kept having to move. Later another guy told me the same thing but he had the problem and it was the soundcard.. I put in an old soundblaster and reconfigured the psk program to see it and poof problem gone.. but I always use a second card to practice playing music through so I used the realtec for that.. Guess what.. my music sounded fine but when trying to learn songs it was all 2 fets hi on the guitar that was the realtec too.. Turned off the onborad card in the CMOS put in a 2nd soundblaster and now it is fine on both.. Don't lnow how it could change the music pitch but it did ...Keep at it you'll get it de Don kb8rya

Don thanks for stopping by.Well I got it, you know when I first had the problem I tried reloading the drivers to no avail.So I bought the new soundcard and was having problems getting it to work right so I pulled it out to start over and thought I'll try one more time to reload the drivers for the on board card and I'll be damned if that fixed it.Boy I tell ya these computers. When they work there great when they don't what a pain.Thanks again.
