If I enter an HF contest that is on all bands, do I go back to serial number 1 when I change to a different band, or do I just carry on with the next serial number?

In most cases, just continue with the serial number series from band to band.

There MAY be some contests or situations where the process is different.

Always check with the contest rules.  Normally, you keep the serial number...but there could be some 'tests where that doesn't apply.
