I'd like to make my own CAT interface cable from my FT-990 to my laptop's USB port. Will this simple connection work? I added the resistor due to the open emitter issue. I have ROM 1.3. Thanks and 73, Jim

I have the adapter cable purchased from an English ham who produces them. My old eyes and hands not up to DIN stuff. Plugged into USB/Serial adapter and good to go!

Hello,

I am interested in obtaining such a CAT cable.  Where did you purchase it?  On the Internet?  Thanks for any info.

W7KSO: QRZ says you have an FT-450? The FT-450 has a male DB-9 on the back panel. Most computer stores sell DB-9 to USB converter cables. Most of these off-the-shelf cables are also male on the DB-9 connector end, so you'll also need a DB-9 female/female gender changer. I don't have a 450 and haven't tried this, but I'm guessing it will work.  73 Jim

I do have an FT-450, but I need the CAT cable between a Yaesu FT-990 and the FIF-250C interface.  I'm a volunteer at the ham shack of the local Arizona Science Center, and we want to get the FT-990 that is there running with HRD.  Thanks for the response.

The FIF-232C has a female 6-pin DIN and so does the radio.  Therefore the cable needs to have male 6-pin DIN connectors on both ends. Good luck trying to find one of those! You might have to order a couple of male 6 pin DIN (not the mini-DIN) connectors and solder up a cable. I'd try ordinary CAT 5 cable.
