Hello Everyone,

I'm still trying to find out the pedigree of this computer from the depths of its innards, and the CTRL,ALT and S pressed togther did.......nothing !

Any more suggestions as to how this XP loaded Desktop will tell me its name and rank,I know its number, but that didn't help when I checked it out on the Compaq page.

hi mel,

try this link to get model infomation

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/WarrantySingleLookup.jsp?country=US&prodSeriesId=96266&prodTypeId=12454&locale=en_US

you need serial and model numbers from the
product tag.

Lets keep this topic open until you get the
answers you need.

hi mel,

I did not have to type it all in, I used the
cut/paste feature in the browser/operating system.

Position your mouse pointer/cursor at the start of
the line/area you want to copy.
Press the left mouse button, as you move the mouse to the right you will see the area appear in reversed block, after you reach the end of the text you want to copy, release the left mouse button and then click on the right button, then select copy from the menu.

Now you can 'paste' the long address in the browser.

    Perhaps it's a mutt?

Sorry I don't remember all the details, but I remember at least some Compaq's from the early Athlon days (about 5 years ago) didn't have an accessible BIOS setup from the keyboard; you had to boot from the original "restore" CD to access the BIOS for such things as specifying hard drive parameters, etc.  A real pain if you lost the CD or inherited a cast off computer.

I know it sounds trite and over-simplistic, but with the serial nomber, model number, etc. have you tried e-mailing Compaq?  They might be of assistance.
