I would like to operate my FT-450, which is located in my shack in the garage, from my house.  I have a Windows XP PC next to my rig in the garage, which has a wireless connection to my Windows XP PC in the house.  Is this at all possible?  I couldn't find the appropriate forum on the HRD forums list.  Thanks for any info.

Hi...I do it all the time.  It is quite  easy.  I have several rigs set up on ethernet using Glentek boards along with a PC which is used for Skype for audio and video (Panoramic receiver display)....all equipment is wired on ethernet with an ethernet switch connected to the router.  Then I use I a PC wirelessly to the router and access my radios, linear which is also etherneted (SPE linear has RS-232 remote capability) and watt meter which also has an RS-232 remote capability.  My wireless PC uses Ham Radio Deluxe to access and control the radios.  Skype will work internally within your ethernet as well.  If you have a paneramic display, you can view it through Skype video calls.  You do not need to use Glentek ethernet boards like I do, but it is the best way, but adds expense...You can just use another PC (buy a cheapie for this purpose....say a rebuilt from Tiger Direct like I did) to act as a server for HRD and Skype audio and video.  I often operate my station from the kitchem table or even bed...boy am I lazy!
If you need help, just e-mail me...
Take care,
Daniel Baral
