battery pack

what is the name of the connector (usually 2 pin male,female) at the end of a battery pack for a cordless phone. I want to make up a battery pack 7.2 volts at 2400 mha and can't find the name of the small plug in connector, or where to but them with the red and blk wires attached.

They are probably a Molex connector of some type. You generally need the exact part number. You might take a look at www.digikey.com and www.mouser.com.

You probably won't find them with wires attached. You usually have to purchase the housing and the pins separately and assemble it yourself.

Perhaps you can find a defunct battery that you can cut the old connector and wires off. Maybe a neighbor or a yard sale or perhaps a shop that sells the batteries.

Unfortunately, there are almost as many type connectors as there are batteries, as there are models of cell phones, past, present, and future...  So there's no exact answer to your question, unless you specified the exact make and model, and a connector wizard happened to come to this thread...
    Often, you can make a different connector work with a bit of ingenuity, and a good pair of pliers.  But as stated, the best (or at least easiest) way is to try to remove the connector from an old battery pack, and splice it onto the new pack.  It's a kludge, to be sure, but if it works, it works!  It's always puzzled me (except from a marketing/profit standpoint) why a pack of three NiCd batteries, worth about $1.00 each, can sell for as much as $20.00 at the local cell phone shop or the electronics dept. of a "Chain-Mart."  I'm REALLY in the wrong business!
