Could a couple of you try out my new program ??

hi guys,

i wrote another little program.. I wonder if a couple of you wouldn't mind trying it out.

It is a prefix lookup program.
I often times find myself listening on the rig, and wondering just what country a prefix belongs to.., so I wrote this little program.

It is written in Visual Basic 6. It works find on my pc, but I have all the files necessary already.
With VB6 programs I have found that on another persons pc you will have some problems with installation files missing and such..
anyway, if any of you folks would give it a try and let me know if it installs ok and if it runs ok.

Sounds like you need to read up on the Package Deployment Wizard, Kevin. There are many online tutorials; here's one:

HI Dave,

no, I know all about package and deployment wizard., I've been using it for years now.
I also know that the nature of VB6 is just that..
the installations are not always flawless.

so, i like to check them out.

The fact that you have 4 different versions of your logging application from which the user must choose depending upon which version of Microsoft Access is installed on their PC shows that you do not yet understand how to deploy Visual Basic applications, Kevin.

By correctly using the Package Deployment Wizard and registering components, you can build applications that *always* deploy successfully on functional user PCs (though the occasional user may need to boot Windows in safe mode to work around a Microsoft installation defect).

Why would you want to offer 4 different versions of your logbook program where the user must choose based on which version of Access is installed on your PC?

Oh I see, your logbook program is not written in VB, but your prefix program is written in VB. The general point is independent of programming language and still stands: provide a reliable and easy-to-use deployment mechanism.

11 megs? no thanks... a nice Ajax/JSP page would be good. Come to think of it QRZ should allow for a DL8* type lookup.

I rewrote the install.
It is now under 1mb in size.. about 160kb.

Running XP service pack 2. Got this error before and after a restart. "Component 'MSDATGRD.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid."
