IC-706MkIIG goes clicky crazy

My Icom 706 just started this disturbing behavior.  If I leave it on for any length of time (we're down to less than ten minutes now), something horrible happens.

The screen goes dark and a relay inside clicks really fast for about four seconds, then the radio comes back up as if it were just turned on for two seconds, and the cycle repeats.

What could be causing this behavior?  Is something inside overheating?  Is it something I can fix or will I have to send it to Icom to be repaired?  Help! :-)

The power supply is putting out plenty of amps at the right voltage according to its meters.  The connectors seem okay but I'll recrimp the PowerPole side just to make sure.  Anything else?

Check your power supply voltage with a volt-meter at the RADIO end of the cable, not just the meter built into the supply. Verify it's 12.5V or higher. What you describe can happen with low voltage.

Even better, measure the regulated 8 volt supply at the accessory socket.

If it's a regulated 8V, couldnt the main Vcc fall quite a bit before that goes out of regulation?

I dont remember the pinout on that radio, but some Icom have 12V unregulated at the accy connector. That would be a smart place to measure it.
