Maybe this is 'old news', but the back cover of the latest QST has a photo of a new "Coming Soon" DSP radio.
Was this seen at Dayton?

tnx

Yes, it is at Dayton and they are promising better receiver performance than the K3. The front panel layout however looks like it was done by Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles so it's unlikely I will buy one.

Radio looks fine to me, if receiver is like K3's - could be a home run for Kenwood !!

What is the model number? Price? I can't even find a photo on the net. If it's too expensive, the TS-2000 still looks like a great transceiver in the Kenwood line.

Word is TS990 and 5 grand. As far as TS2000 being a good rig to buy new you are kidding right?

From being associated with Kenwood for over 30 years I can guarantee he is guessing on all counts. Anyone that leaked anything other than what you see on the back of QST would be looking for a job.

Because the 2k is 10 years (or more) old technology and better dsp chips have come out since then.  You also may not know about all the filter failures associated w/ this radio.

It is a good radio but technology marches on.  I'm just glad I have not had a problem w/ mine !!!

I was afraid you were going to tell me is was problematic or something worse.  It was the best radio the store had in stock, that did what I wanted when I was spending insurance money.

I knew about this rig nearly a year ago but I guess nobody believed me. Got it straight from Kenwood then. They told me then for sure by next Dayton Hamvention in 2012. I did not know the model number then (they would not say) but did figure out it was a 990 a few months ago.

TS2000 has VERY primitive DSP chips. A decent analog rig will outperform it easily on HF. Selectivity and skirts rejection lacks too.  It was a nice concept 13 years ago but should have been replaced/updated several years ago.

Started with a TS2000. It was a good radio in certain ways but receive is where it left. I am sitting in front of a TS 480HX as we speak. I sold the 2000 to a tech that wanted 6 and 2 meter weak signal. I never used the 2 meter band on this radio. The 480 is a much better receiving rig. I would love to be able to afford the new Kenwood rig but I simply can not do it.

I too own a 480 and have for 3 years now and it is arguably the finest rig you can buy in its price class and then some.
