ICOM756ProIII Keys by its self in CW.

I have a ICOM 756ProIII.  When in SSB sometimes I hear a tone in receive mode.  When in CW and the transmit button is pressed I hear the same tone and this time the transmitter keys I have noticed that if I press on the ELEC-KEY plug (without anything plugged into it) I can, with very little pressure, get the radio to key or create the tone, depending on the mode I am in.  Is anybody aware of a common failure mode to cause this before I crack the case open and look?

Sounds like an intermittant short on one of the contacts in that key jack, or maybe the circuit board close to it.  May even simply be a bit of something conductive stuck in there that shouldn't be.

1. Does it do it on a dummy load?
2. You didn't leave the VOX turned on, did you?

The key jack is mounted on a small printed circuit board behind the front panel. There is a small cable from the key board to the display board. I suspect that the cable is loose. Good luck.
